Summer-Activities Rentals:
There are two places that you can get rentals for summer activities in Lubbock. One of them, probably the most convenient, is going to be the Outdoor Pursuits Center (OPC) located right next to the front entrance for the student REC Center. The other, Sun Adventure Sports, only rents mountain bikes. Below are comparative price charts for the two rental options. I don't have any personal experience renting from Sun Adventure Sports. However, I will say that you should be wary of renting through the OPC.
At the OPC, you are fully liable for any damages/lost parts concerning their equipment. For example, a friend of mine had to pay $75.00 for the replacement of a brake handle on his bicycle, which was bent in a crash. In addition, the spare bike tube they include in the fanny-pack underneath the bike seat is an additional $10.00 - $5.00 for the tube plus an additional $5.00 for their mechanic to inspect the new tube to ensure it was installed correctly. Also, their bike quality is not on par with Sun Adventure Sports. On the flip-side, as long as you aren't an expert mountain biker hitting 5+ ft drops, you shouldn't find anything wrong with their mountain bikes. The main brand/types they use are FUJI hard-tails (no rear-suspension). However, the nice thing about the OPC is that you can also rent any other equipment that you could potentially need for a hiking/backpacking/biking trip. Below are the rental prices and options that can be found at either location:

Winter-Activities Rentals
Winter rentals can be obtained either in Lubbock or at the mountain. For those of you looking to save money, I would highly suggest NOT renting at the mountain. The only reason renting at the mountain would be a good idea is if you are an advanced-expert skier who plans on going off-piste or to hike-to terrain. If that's the case, then you need to rent wider-than-average demo skis. Otherwise, there's no reason not to rent the standard ski/snowboard package offered in Lubbock.
For Lubbock rentals, your options are either the OPC (prices above) or Troy's Ski Lubbock. I would recommend Troy's over the OPC. Again, the OPC will charge you for any damages/scratches made to their equipment due to their lack of an on-site repair shop! At Troys, however, you are not charged for most base scratches; exceptions being intentional damages or core shots. In addition, Troy's is an official sponsor of Tech Ski and Snowboard and has guaranteed us competitive pricing against the OPCs rental rates for weekend trips in addition to a 10% shop discount with the purchase of rentals and proof of membership (Provided to Troy's by the club as a list of people who have paid dues).
Our big trips are special cases when it comes to rentals. We recommend getting your rentals through UBSKI or Lifestylez. The rental prices through these entities is either equal-to or cheaper than Lubbock pricing and can be picked up at the mountain. By not having to lug skis all the way up from Lubbock, we also save on gas and gain additional room for luggage.
