Santa Fe Ski Area, NM
Quick Links:
Description:
Ski Santa Fe is a medium sized ski resort with 6 ski lifts (4 chair lifts, 2 surface lifts) that offers skiers 503 meters (1650 feet) of vertical descent. Ski Santa Fe has 660 acres of terrain over 67 trails. Ski Santa Fe is evenly suited for both advanced and intermediate skiers and snowboarders but with some terrain for beginners. Almost half of the trails at Ski Santa Fe are covered by snow making. The nearest airport is at Albuquerque. While this resort can be great on a powder day, most of the time snow conditions are hard-packed and/or icy.
Don't be fooled by the double-blacks you see on the trail map. These chutes/glades are very short and offer little compared to the technical terrain you'd find in larger resorts. However, even though they're short, they're still fun to blast down! With several fun bump runs and a few cliffs to huck here and there, this resort will keep your average skier entertained and can be tolerated by the more advanced to expert skiers. Also, this mountain has some great gladed areas and fairly-widely spaced trees at the top-mid mountain, which make for some fun trees runs. The terrain parks are fairly basic. They only offer a few features; boxes, rails, and if memory serves, a small jump or two.
Finally, as a last comment, be warned that the chairlifts are the high-speed quads! They go much slower - as with most New Mexico lifts, but they give you access to most of the mountain's vertical.
