Tech Ski and Snowboard Trips
Tech Ski and Snowboard was founded with the initial purpose of simply being a ski and snowboard club for people that casually skied in places like New Mexico and Southern Colorado for the weekend. However, since then we have expanded our horizons to all kinds of adventure/outdoor sports and activities. After all, it's easy to get bored in Lubbock, TX! In addition, most of us don't have the means to travel to New Zealand or South America to chase winter down to the Southern Hemisphere! As such, we created a series of social events, hiking, camping, and mountain biking trips to keep ourselves busy during the early, fall semester.
Hiking, Mountain Biking, and Camping:
For mountain biking, hiking, and camping, our most common destination is Palo Duro Canyon, just 2 hours North of Lubbock. This canyon has some of the best mountain biking trails you can find in the state of Texas. While the hiking isn't extraordinarily challenging, there are plenty of interesting geographical formations to look at in addition to some excellent off-trail, free-hiking areas. The usual mountain biking trip starts around Friday at 4:00 pm when we leave Lubbock. Once we arrive, we start everything off with a handlebar-gripping descent from the top of the canyon to the campsite in the valley! After that, we ride the trails around the campsite as a warm-up for tomorrow until it gets dark. Next, we set up camp and have an awesome meal of burgers, hot dogs, and s'mores around a fire pit. The next day starts early in the morning for anyone who wants to free-hike to the top of the canyon and then goes into non-stop mountain-biking - there's a lunch break of course - until we're all too tired to get on our bikes! Then we head home and arrive just in time to hit Broadway on Saturday night! In addition, we're also planning trips to Angel Fire, NM, Caprock Canyon, TX, and potentially a summer backpacking trip to Colorado over the next year.

Ski Trips:
For our ski trips, we have at least one to Wolf Creek Ski Area, CO during the late, fall semester to get some early turns in and shake the rust off our edges. In addition, we have several weekend trips to Wolf Creek, CO and New Mexico resorts (dependent on snow) throughout the year! Not to worry, if you've never skied or snowboarded, the officers of our organization are happy to offer lessons for an hour or two during your first day on the mountain. Our goal is to get everyone to the point where they can get down mountain without having to pay $80.00+ for a lesson! We usually leave from Lubbock on Friday afternoon, ski Saturday and Sunday, and drive straight back to Lubbock from the resort when the lifts close. We try to get back to Lubbock before 1:00 am (depending on resort distance) so everyone can get a good night's sleep before Monday classes.
In addition to our weekend trips, we also have two large ski trips during Winter Break and Spring Break that we schedule through Lifestylez. In the past, we have gone to Arapahoe Basin, Copper Mountain, Aspen (all 4 mountains), Copper Mountain, and Breckenridge. This year we are going to Telluride during Winter Break and Breckenridge for Spring Break. During these trips we get 4 days of lift tickets, 5 nights of condo lodging, meals for the days spent at the mountain (simple breakfasts, lunches, and family-style dinners), and transportation - assuming you ride with the club carpool from Lubbock to the mountain. Things that make this trip special are the shows, concerts, and parties put on by the Lifestylez group. These events are open to the 900+ college students from all over the country that traveled to the same resort! It is truly a unique experience!
